Does fontanelle size matter?

This is a study that I wanted to do in our research group for years. It dispels the commonly held myth that a small or closed anterior fontanelle is a potential sign of craniosynostosis. It is not. We in the field have always known this, but the pediatricians continue to refer patients to specialists and for unnecessary imaging based solely on the size or absence of the AF alone, and not on the basis of a suggestive head shape.
